A beautifully-bred son of Mr. Prospector, Souvenir Copy captured the Del Mar Futurity (G2) and Norfolk Stakes (G2) at two, and the Derby Trial (G3) at three. With ten stakes winners, two of them graded, he is now firmly established as one of California’s top young sires.

Souvenir Copy’s graded stakes winning juvenile filly, Souvenir Gift, is out of a mare by Alleged (by Hoist the Flag, by Tom Rolfe, from the Ribot line). Souvenir Gift’s second dam is by Seattle Slew, and Souvenir Copy also has the graded stakes winning sprinter, Estate Collection and stakes winner Height of Summer, out of mares by General Meeting, a son of Seattle Slew. He should work well with mares by most other Seattle Slew sons, including A.P. Indy, Avenue of Flags, Capote, Doneraile Court (a half-brother to the dam of Souvenir Copy), Event of the Year, Fast Play, Gold Legend, Houston, Metfield, Seattle Song, Septieme Ciel, Slew City Slew, Slew o’ Gold, Slewacide, Slewpy, Tsunami Slew and Williamstown.

Souvenir Copy is a Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross, as are such successful stallions as Kingmambo (also out of Nureyev mare), Distorted Humor, Elusive Quality, Grand Slam, Fusaichi Pegasus and Smoke Glacken. Souvenir Copy is already sire of two stakes winners out of mares descending from Northern Dancer through Storm Cat (by Storm Bird). Mares by Storm Cat’s son, Storm Boot, would give inbreeding to the family of Nureyev. He also has stakes winner The Thought Occurs, out of a mare by Regal Classic, a son of Vice Regent, also sire of Deputy Minister. Souvenir Copy should be good with virtually any branch of the Northern Dancer line, but the similarly-bred Kingmambo has crossed well with Sadler’s Wells (three-parts-brother to Nureyev, the broodmare sire of Souvenir Copy), Danzig, Dixieland Band, Lyphard, Nijinsky II and The Minstrel. Sadler’s Wells’ brother, Fairy King, is sire of Californian stallion Bartok. It would also be worth breeding Souvenir Copy to mares by sons and grandsons of Nureyev.

Souvenir Copy is sire of a stakes winner Among My Souvenirs out of a mare by Classic Account (by Private Account), from the Damascus line. Vogue Girl, an undefeated listed winner at two, is out of a mare by Sham, and Souvenir Copy also has a two-year-old stakes winner out of a mare by Silent Screen (by Prince John). Souvenir Copy has close inbreeding to Tom Fool in his granddam, and this should work well with Blushing Groom. He already has a stakes winner out of a mare by Nashwan (by Blushing Groom) and other sources such as Rahy, Mt. Livermore and Runaway Groom (sire of Cherokee Run) should also be good.

It could also pay to look for mares by Alydar and his sons, particularly Alysheba (who gives inbreeding the brother and sister, Thong – granddam of Nureyev – and Lt. Stevens); Roberto (particularly through Lear Fan, who also gives Thong/Lt. Stevens); Sword Dance (a close relative to Nureyev) and Apalachee (out of Champion Moccasin, a sister to Thong).
